Using What You Have

My husband recently shared with me that even though we do not have kids of our own, we should be using the resources we do have to help those around us, particularly kiddos. He gets it. He wants us to Live in the Wait.

So, what did we do? We donated to Feeding South Dakota to eliminate hunger by making sure families have food. We packed shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, which sends packages to children all over the world so they have gifts to open on Christmas and hear about the greatest gift ever, Jesus. We volunteer our time with kids through Girls on the Run and Boys State. We give our nieces and nephew our undivided attention and invest time in their lives. For monetary donations, we have what we call a town hall meeting. My husband thinks he is the mayor, ha! During that time, we determine where we would like to donate. We each bring certain organizations or causes to the table depending what God has laid on our hearts. It can be the same every month or different.

This my friends, is Living in the Wait. It is using whatever resources you have, whether it is time, talent, money – you name it – and sharing with those around you. If it is too difficult, being around other kiddos when you are longing for your own, that is ok. I have felt that way at times too. Find a different program you are passionate about and use your gifts that way. I encourage you to learn more about the programs previously mentioned or research others in your area.

What are some organizations you support and why?
