We are over half way through the growing season which means harvest is right around the corner. For those of you that joined in with the Farmer’s Daughter series, three months ago I challenged you to find a seed – a word, phrase or verse – to plant in your life. I asked you to pray on it expecting a harvest; expecting God to answer that prayer.
The seed I planted was Galatians 6:9 NIV – Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
So much can happen from the time seeds are planted until harvest. The weather swings from drought to flooding, hail to high winds, sun to snow. All sorts of weather and external factors can happen during the growing season. Our growing seasons can look very similar. We have times when we are fully vested in our seeds and other times when we let them fall by the wayside. External factors like, doubt, fear, and hopelessness can come in, like weeds, and overtake our thoughts, crushing our crops.
This is also when the season starts to drag on. Farmers know they are nearing the end of their growing season and are antsy to get into the fields to harvest their crops. Despite their eagerness, they know better than to start combining in August because their crops aren’t ready yet.
Maybe you are feeling like that. You are so ready for your harvest to come. Just like farmers know it’s not the proper time, the same thing applies to our lives. If farmers took their crops out of the ground too early, it would affect their yield and ultimately their livelihood. I know the months and years are getting long. I am right there with you, but I urge you, continue to care for your crops and trust your harvest will come at the right time. God will tell you, He promises.
Some of my seeds have grown tall and others are still small stalks, barely peeking above the ground. I can feel it in my heart that they are growing but know they aren’t all finished yet. While my seeds for a baby haven’t matured yet, I can see how all the others seeds I planted are supporting this one and will help it come to harvest.
I can’t wait to check in again when it’s harvest time to see how God has worked in your life! Keep praying that word, phrase or verse, expecting a harvest; expecting God to answer that prayer. Remember, our thoughts, our seeds, today are going to reap us a reward in the future.
