Do You Want to Be Refreshed?

Proverbs 11:25 NIV – A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

To set the stage for today’s verse, let’s define refresh. It means, give new strength or energy to; reinvigorate.

During our season of waiting, I’ve needed continuous refreshing. So many times, I needed a new wave of strength to keep me going after months of disappointment. When you’re going through a difficult time it is often hard to invigorate yourself because your circumstances weigh heavy on your heart and mind. This verse reaffirms the vital role relationships play in our lives. We need to surround ourselves with others because they are going to give us energy for another day. Ry and I are so fortunate to have so many family, friends and strangers, who’ve been generous with their time, words and hearts to refresh us. Who are those people in your life?

While it’s important to be refreshed by others, this verse also says we need to return the favor. When life is difficult and you are dealing with a heavy load, I know it can be challenging, almost counterproductive, to turn your focus away from yourself and think of others. You might be thinking, I have so much going on, I don’t have time to think about someone else. This verse delivers some tough love by giving us the secret to being refreshed which requires us to be unselfish.

In the simplest of terms, refresh others and you WILL be refreshed. I love how this verse doesn’t say may, might, could or maybe refresh. Nope, we are given a guarantee. How awesome is that! I’ve seen this happen every time I mail an E+DAY card. I know the words on that note are going to energize the recipient and it’s reciprocated in my life every time. It’s the coolest.

Try putting this verse into action. What we do to others, speaks volumes in their lives and ours. What are you waiting for my friend. Do you want to be refreshed? Refresh someone else and watch the power of God at work.
