A How To in Waiting

Psalm 27:14 NLT – Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD!

You all know I like tactical + practical and thankfully we have the Bible to help us with that when it comes to waiting. I recently came across this verse and am so thankful God made this message available so we would know How To wait.

To set the stage, all scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16) so even though David is talking in this verse, God is speaking these words through him.

We All Wait

First off, this verse reminds us that in this life, we will wait. It’s not of matter of IF, but WHEN.  You might be surprised by the type of wait or the length of it, but according to this verse, it’s something we all will experience.

How to Wait

I don’t know about you, but I like to be kept in the loop and God does exactly that when it comes to how we should wait. It’s very simple, He tells us to wait patiently. You might not like that answer, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

The definition of patiently is “in a way that shows tolerance of delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.”

I laughed when I read this definition because that’s the very opposite of how I prefer to wait, and is probably true for most of you. We are not tolerable of delays, problems or suffering and usually get annoyed and anxious when we have to wait. By the world’s standards, “wait patiently” seems contradictory.

God Knows About Waiting

Here’s the thing, God doesn’t tell us to wait patiently because He thought it sounded nice or pretty. He tells us this because it’s BEST for His children. He knows what we need and He’s telling us, you are going to need patience during your wait. Notice how this verse doesn’t say anything about waiting being easy? God knows how difficult waiting is so He gave us this verse to prepare us. He loves us and is looking out for us. He also tells us that during our wait, we will need to be brave and courageous.

The best way I’ve found to wait patiently is by Trusting God. Period. Relying on His strength to wait patiently another day, month, year. Trusting who He is and that His love and grace abounds. It’s a process that took me 2.5 years to fully accept.

I hope today’s message proves to be valuable for you and your wait. That it would give you some sort of peace knowing our God has given us a verbal heads up and how to in preparation for the many waits we will experience in life.

Please share with someone you know who could use some encouragement in the wait.
