Where to Find Rest

Matthew 11:28 NIV – Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

I recently returned from a five-day trip to Nashville, TN. I love to travel, but after a few days, I was tiring out: I was missing home, my Ry, my comfortable bed and a home cooked meal. There is no place like home and I couldn’t wait until my feet hit the familiar floor of my house.

We live in a world that lives on fumes and boasts in busyness. We are exhausted, overwhelmed and running on low battery power. Can anyone else relate? Many things in life can wear us down: work, family, expectations, guilt, worry, stress, waiting, constantly trying to earn and achieve… all sorts of situations and circumstances can be a burden, leaving us begging for rest.  Our infertility journey has tuckered me out and I know many of you have felt or feel the same way. It’s mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially EXHAUSTING. Thankfully, the Bible gives us the solution to fix this. That’s what I love so much about God’s word. Whenever we have a question or need instruction for life, just pick it up and He’s there, ready to answer.

Where to Find Rest

When our body, soul, mind and spirit are tired, God provides the solution to our problem: GO TO HIM. That’s it; it’s really that simple. Notice how He first instructs us to go to Him and then receive rest. He knew we would be burdened by this life, but He also knew the only option for true rest is Him. The kind that gives us peace, comfort, safety and hope, despite being in the middle of a difficult situation.

So, why do we wait until the point of almost no return to finally go to Him for rest? Because we often think we can carry the load on our own. But we get worn out and start to have no good, very bad days. What if the next time you felt yourself beginning to tire out, you went to Him? He’s been there, all along, waiting to give us rest the moment our body and spirit feel the first twinge of weariness.

If you want to find true rest in this life, the answer is simple. Jesus is inviting you to come to Him. He wants to give us rest because He knows we need it. Let today be the day you accept the idea that you are tired and go to Him in prayer for some much-needed rest.

Please share with someone you know who could use some encouragement in the wait.
